Two manuscript drafts (with typescripts) and other documents related to "The Rule of Phase Applied to History," an essay by Henry Adams written in 1909. The essay was not published until 1919 in The Degradation of Democratic Dogma, edited by Brooks Adams. The collection also includes an introductory letter written to be circulated with the essay, Adams' manuscript notes, commentary by Henry A. Bumstead, and correspondence on the manuscript by Bumstead, Wilder D. Bancroft, and Worthington C. Ford.
